Speech Title:
Materials in a new age adventure.
Abstract:
We live in a materials world, and the development of new materials has become inevitable in our daily lives to meet the yarning of local industry and sustainable development goals. The world will continue to experience the outburst of new materials for multifaceted application to mitigate failures in service. It is known that material destruction results in loss of mechanical properties like strength, ductility, and impact strength. The cost of maintenance and repair cannot be ignored since the costs vary from one industry and nation to the other. However, Surface Engineering is both an art and science of surface improvement. It is the treatment of metallic surface through an application of surface-active agent or metallic materials to alter the appearance and give special surface properties or improve engineering or mechanical properties. The effects of corrosion failures on the performance and maintenance of materials would often be minimized if life monitoring and control of the environmental and human factors supplemented efficient designs. Materials that range from ceramics, composites, biomaterials, and metals are of great benefit for suitable surfaces enhancement properties and achieving interfacial multi-functional systems where necessary. Hence, we will be looking into detailed information on surface modifications in recent times for contemporary application in materials manufacturing design.
